photo of Ned YostIn an unprecedented move, the Milwaukee Brewers fired manager Ned Yost on Monday, hoping to pull out of another late-season slump that has jeopardized the team's chance of making the playoffs for the first time since 1982.

Third-base coach Dale Sveum will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the season. The Brewers have lost seven of eight and fallen into a tie with Philadelphia for the NL wild-card lead.

Well, I hate to say it, but A-Rodj looked good last night and the Packer Nation is breathing a sigh of relief.

Just to se thye record straight I didn't sit and watch the entire game.  I was watching Dallas carve up the Texans as well the Brewers hammer on the Pirates.  But somehow I found the time to switch over and see the hated Green and Yellow invaders from up north play some ball.

The winners of the gold medals are supposed to be natural athletes, untainted by technology. After enough “scandals,” the amateur myth eventually died of its own absurdity. The natural myth is still alive in Beijing, but it’s becoming so far-fetched — and potentially dangerous — that some scientists and ethicists would like to abandon it, too.

What if we let athletes do whatever they wanted to excel?

Before you dismiss this notion, consider what we’re stuck with today. The system is ostensibly designed to create a level playing field, protect athletes’ health and set an example for children, but it fails on all counts.

Madison North Side ice arena gets first major upgrades in four decades

For many seasons, Hartmeyer Ice Arena on the city's North Side has been having problems with its ice sheet. The permafrost — the sand foundation the ice sheet rested on — was damaged and caused the ice to shift and bulge.
