Ned Yost is GONE! PDF Print E-mail
photo of Ned YostIn an unprecedented move, the Milwaukee Brewers fired manager Ned Yost on Monday, hoping to pull out of another late-season slump that has jeopardized the team's chance of making the playoffs for the first time since 1982.

Third-base coach Dale Sveum will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the season. The Brewers have lost seven of eight and fallen into a tie with Philadelphia for the NL wild-card lead.

What a Difference a Week Can Make PDF Print E-mail

Milwaukee Brewers logoLast week I was riding high after the Crew swept the Cards. Now, I'm hoping the Brewers can win one game and stop the bleeding. The Cubs have taken the first 3 in the series, but there is still hope. Winning one of four at home is not much, but it's a heck of a lot better than being swept.

What happened? When did things start to unravel? I think most people would point to the play Rickie Weeks didn't make in Monday night's game where he threw the ball into the stands on a potential inning ending double play. It was his 2nd error of the inning and an absolute momentum killing, back breaking missed opportunity for the Brewers.

I think the Brewers can bounce back, but after getting swept at home by the Cubs and seeing their 1/2 game deficit jump to 4 or 5 games you know their confidence is shaken. : (

Good series over the weekend against the Braves with the exception of Sunday's uninspired shutout loss. Not pleased, but life will go on. They just need to pick things up a bit and play like they're capable of. Be more selective at the plate, play good defense and generate some runs with base hits and timely hitting. They can't continue to live on the long ball.

Sabathia... The Key to the Promised Land? PDF Print E-mail

photo of CC SabathiaDid this guy come as advertised, or what? He's 4-0 with the Brewers and working on a streak of 3 complete games. He's struck out 24 batters in 24 innings while walking 6.

Anyone who has taken a peek at what CC Sabathia has done in four starts as a Milwaukee Brewer knows he has been every bit the ace he was touted as when the team traded for him.

After Sabathia’s first start, he joked that he was too new to the team to ask manager Ned Yost to go out for another inning, but they could be perfect strangers for life and he’d still go out for as many innings as he’d like based on the way he’s been pitching.

Yost Addresses Sabathia Rumors PDF Print E-mail

If the Brewers are considered a front-runner in the C.C. Sabathia sweepstakes, manager Ned Yost wanted nothing to do with it on Friday. "A rumor's a rumor," Yost said before Milwaukee's game with Pittsburgh. "We don't pay attention to it too much." According to recent reports, Milwaukee's surplus of minor league talent has given the organization an upper hand in the competition to acquire Sabathia. The reigning AL Cy Young winner is 6-8 with a 3.83 ERA in Cleveland.

MY THOUGHTS: I think the Brewers need to get this deal done.  Yes, it would require parting ways with some talent and yes, there is no assurance that the addition of Sabathia will take them to the promised land, but what the heck... take a shot.  The window of opportunity is only open for so long.  This might be the time for the Crew.  Make the deal!
