My Trek 9800 is back on the road and Kevin Smith is the man. I did a lot of the work myself, but in the end I needed the help of a pro and Kevin was there to nail things down for me.
My bike took a beating over the winter. The cables were all crudded up and that was probably the biggest issue. No stopping because the brakes didn't work. No changing gears as the derailleur cables were filled with crap. It was bad... very bad, so this past spring and summer I replaced: - brakes and cables
- derailleur cables
- 1 rim
- saddle
- chain
- pedals
Considering my proficiency as a bike mechanic this was a pretty involved overhaul. In the end... it was worth it. The bike is running great, I learning quite a bit about bicycle maintenance and everyone is happy. Did I learn as much as I would have liked? No. Definitely not. I think I have a better idea of how to adjust the derailleurs, but I would still struggle on my own. But, it's a starting point and that helps. |
