Losing in the Superbowl PDF Print E-mail

After the Dallas loss this past weekend I'll now speak up about something I've been thinking about for several weeks. Is it better to make it to the Superbowl and lose or to lose before you get there?

On the surface is seems like an easy question... why would anyone want to lose before getting there right?  Well, what if you figured that your team had a very small chance of winning in the bowl?  What is you thought your team would be the victim at the Patriots victory party?  What is you didn't want to be a part of their undefeated season?  Well, aside from the week 5 loss to NE the Cowboys won't be.

I think the events of last weekend put Packer fans in a very interesting situation.  You can beat the Giants and go to the bowl to get destroyed by NE, or you can lose at home to the Giants... where does that get you?

Anyway, let me know what you think.

Here are my predictions for the Wild Card Weekend:

Wow!  Really some good game this weekend and certainly some surprises.  If I'm the coach of any of the teams that had this past weekend off I'm reminding them that the regular season is over and it's time to crank it up.  One and done now boys… lose and you go home.

Redskins vs. Seahawks

What a rollercoaster ride of momentum.  All Seattle early, Washington roars back and then the Hawks explode late to finish off the Skins.  I was very impressed with Seattle's defensive speed and I think this will give Green Bay trouble.  I was not impressed with the Seattle running game.  Very average if you ask me.

Jaguars vs. Steelers

Another game with lots of momentum changes.  In the end the Jags got it back and made plays to win the game.  Do I think they can beat New England?  Yes, they can, but they'll have to pound them with the running game and keep Brady and Co. off the field.  Jacksonville is physical, maybe the most physical team in the league and they need to use that to their advantage this weekend.

Giants vs. Buccaneers

The Bucs started hot, but that was about it. Their defense played well, but Jeff Garcia looked rusty.  Very rusty.  I read something about him playing only 7 quarters in the last 6 games and that showed.  You have to give credit to the G-Men though.  They got pressure on Garcia and the biggest thing… Eli Manning played up to his potential.  He looked GREAT!  Possibly his best game ever and couldn't have come at a better time.  I'm worried about Dallas having to face the Giants and the difficulty in beating the same team 3 times in one year.  Rugged.

Titans vs. Chargers

Seemed like the game turned on the Chris Brown fumble.  Great play by Shawn Merriman and the Charger defense.  Not much to say about this game.  Phillip Rivers does nothing for me and I don't give the Bolts much chance of winning in Indy.  The Colts defense is good, real good (fewest points allowed in the league this year) and I don't see San Diego getting on track.  Vince Young… who are you?  Lots of work to do in the off-season.
