iPhoto update helps show merits of geotagging |
With its launch of iPhoto 09, Apple has begun showing some reasons why it's worth enduring the hassle of geotagging your photos.
It's generally not easy right now to label your photos with information about where you took the pictures -- the process usually is done with special software to marry the photos with location data taken from a separate GPS receiver.

Hulu rival adds more premium content |

CBS has boosted their TV.com lineup this week, adding the popular Showtime hits Dexter and Californication to its free streaming library.
There was no word on how many episodes would be added, and for how long, but most likely they will include the first season of each show and some of the recent episodes, all for free with ad-supports.
In an effort to compete with the very popular Hulu streaming website, the site was given an overhaul last month with a new design and tons of new premium content ranging from "24" to "Alfred Hitchcock Presents."
The NYTimes reported that they expect CBS, the conglomerate which owns the site, to announce major deals with PBS, Sony, MGM and Endemol as soon as Monday.

Imagine juicing up your laptop computer or cell phone without plugging it into an electrical socket.
That's a luxury that could be provided by wireless power transmission, a concept that has been bandied about for decades but is creeping closer to becoming viable. Building off work unveiled last year by Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers, Intel Corp. demonstrated Thursday how to make a 60-watt light bulb glow from an energy source 3 feet away. The Intel team did it with relatively high efficiency, losing only a quarter of the energy the researchers started with. |

Mysteries Of The Favicon.ico — How To Create A Favicon In Photoshop |
A Favicon is a little custom icon that appears next to a website's URL in the address bar of a web browser. They also show up in your bookmarked sites, on the tabs in tabbed browsers, and as the icon for Internet shortcuts on your desktop or other folders in Windows. And when I say little, I mean 16 pixels by 16 pixels. So if you like a good design challenge try your hand at this one. All you need to add a Favicon to your site is a Windows Icon (.ico) file usually called favicon.ico that you upload to the main directory of your website. Nowadays, most browsers besides Internet Explorer can use a GIF (including animated ones) or PNG (including full transparency) instead. But since all browsers including IE understand the .ico format, and because it's got a lot of intriguing features that GIFs and PNGs don't, read on to find out how to make one. |

Ouch! Rough week working on the Madison Network of Black Professionals website.
First I had difficulties with a form tool. I spent hours getting it installed because the documentation on the site sucks so bad. All along I thought it was something with the Joomla CMS that wasn't working right... and in the end it turned out to be a permissions issue. Second, so I get things rolling with the forms and I have the site pretty much the way I want it and then the database craps out on me. I probably shouldn't say the "database crapped out", but the bottomline is that I started over from scratch. I knew it would be quite a bit of work, but I figured I'd get more experience and it would work out. It has, but I have a meeting this Friday morning to demo the site and I've still got a lot of work to do. Moving forward... I'm going to figure out how to clone or backup the database so that when I have a problem like this again I can simply put the backup database in place and move on. |
